That was back in 2023, and an injury meant he was stripped of the title. Since he came back, he’s had two fights and lost both. He was KO’d in the first round in his title fight against Alex Pereira, and this year, he suffered a 3rd round stoppage loss to Jiri Prochazka.
Khalil Rountree Jr.
Rountree has a 13-6 record in professional MMA, with 9 wins and 6 losses in the UFC. Until recently, he was on an impressive 5-fight win streak, which included 4 KO wins. However, he met his match against Alex Pereira in his last fight as he was stopped in the 4th round. 69% of his professional wins have come by way of KO or TKO, and before his last fight, he hadn’t finished since 2019.
Rafael Fiziev
Fiziev lost his UFC debut in 2019 before going on to win 6 fights in a row, including 3 impressive KO wins. He’s made a name for himself with his excellent striking ability, although he’s currently on a 3-fight losing streak. He fought Justin Gaethje to a majority decision loss in 2023 and injured his knee in his next fight, which kept him out for more than a year. In his return, he rematched Gaethje and lost a unanimous decision.
Ignacio Bahamondes
Bahamondes has won his last 3 fights by stoppage, bringing his overall MMA record to 17-5, with 6 wins and 2 losses in the UFC. He secured a head kick KO over Christos Giagos before stopping Manuel Torres in the 1st round and submitting Jalin Turner in the first round. 65% of his wins have come by way of KO/TKO, and he’s never been KO’d. In 8 UFC fights, he’s only gone to the judges’ scorecards 3 times.
Jamahal Hill may have lost his title outside the cage due to an injury, but since then, he’s lost two fights in a row. Admittedly, they were against two of the best fighters in the division, but both ended in Hill being stopped by ground strikes. As a result of his recent record and performances, Hill is the MMA odds underdog for this fight.
Rountree Jr. may have lost his last fight, but he looked great against Alex Pereira, giving the at-the-time champion one of his toughest fights. His southpaw stance and Muay Thai background presented problems for the former world champion kickboxer. He also showed a lot of heart and toughness. Hill will most likely try to take him down, but Rountree Jr. will be expected to have the better of Hill on the feet.
Fiziez has now lost 3 fights in a row, although two of those were against Gatheje, one of the toughest fighters in the division. His knee injury kept him out of the sport for a while, and he may have benefited from an easier return fight. Despite his current losing record, Fiziev is the current UFC odds betting favourite in this matchup, likely due to his excellent striking.
Bahamondes is on an impressive streak right now, and his confidence will be riding high after getting 3 finishes in a row. His last win over Jalin Turner was impressive, although Turner retired afterwards, showing that his heart may not have been in it. It will be hard to count Bahamondes out, but he’s coming up against a much tougher and more experienced opponent.
