Overwatch 2 Teams & Major Tournaments

  • Esports World Cup - The Esports World Cup (EWC) is the biggest event in the competitive gaming scene, featuring tournaments across 20 of the most popular Esports, including Overwatch. The Overwatch tournament features 16 of the best Overwatch teams in the world and a prize pool of $1 million. You can find out EWC picks and predictions on our blog.

  • Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) - This is the official competitive system for Overwatch 2, which was launched in 2024 after the final season of the Overwatch League (OWL). It includes open division qualifiers and regional events.

  • Overwatch World Cup (OWWC) - A unique Esports event which has similarities to the FIFA World Cup. National teams represent their countries, with players for each side selected through tryouts or regional leagues. South Korea is the most successful country with 3 OWWC titles.

  • Overwatch Contenders - A semi-professional Overwatch 2 circuit that feeds into the OWCS. The developmental league is divided into regions, and top teams can qualify to appear in the Champions Series events.

Format and Schedule of Overwatch 2 Tournaments

The Overwatch Champions Series is the main professional circuit in Overwatch 2. It’s organised by Blizzard and replaced the Overwatch League in 2024. It includes several main event types:

  • OWCS Opens - These are regional qualifiers that are held either monthly or seasonally.

  • OWCS Majors - These are global Local Area Network (LAN) events which feature the top teams from each region that qualified from the Opens.

  • OWCS Midseason Championship - The Esports World Cup will host the Midseason Championship, featuring 16 top teams based on their performance across the regular season and offering the biggest prize pools.

  • OWCS Global Finals - At the end of the year, this championship event is held to crown the best Overwatch 2 team in the world.

The three main regions of professional Overwatch 2 are:

  • Americas

  • EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa)

  • Asia (Pacific region)

The format depends on the tournament, but for the 2025 Midseason Championship at the EWC, teams will be split into one of 4 groups. During the group stage, each team plays 3 matches, and the top 2 teams go through to the playoffs. The playoff matches are a single elimination format, with winners progressing to the next round until they reach the Grand Final.

Matches are played to the best of 5, with the first team to reach 3 wins progressing. Up to 5 maps will be played, with a variety of game modes including Control, Hybrid, Push, and Escort. Players attempt to eliminate the opposition while securing in-game objectives to earn points.

  • Map winner: This is a bet on the winner of an individual map within the match. You can bet on either team or a draw. This is like a 1x2 bet.

  • Outright winner: In Esports, an outright winner is a bet on the team you think will win a tournament. So, for instance, you might back Crazy Racoon to win the Overwatch Champions Series Global Finals.

  • Handicap: A handicap bet is another way to place a wager on which team you think will win, but they must overcome a specific map handicap for your bet to be successful. You can also bet on a team with a map advantage, and they must avoid losing by more than the advantage for your bet to pay out. Learn about how handicap bets work here.

  • Total: These are over/under bets where you predict the total number of maps played in the game. You can also bet on total kills and other game statistics.

  • Prop bets: Proposition bets (prop bets for short) are wagers that aren’t tied directly to the outcome of the match. In Overwatch, you might place a prop bet on the first team to land a kill in a specific fixture.
